Student-Alumni Mentoring (SAM)
Sponsored by the Student Alumni Council and the Alumni Association Board of Directors
The Student-Alumni Mentoring (SAM) program, now in its 18th year, is the preeminent undergraduate mentoring program at the University of St. Thomas. In line with the university's mission of "educating students to become morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good,” the program draws upon the expertise and passion of alumni to effect professional growth in St. Thomas students.
Alumni continually seek opportunities to give their time to students and to give back to St. Thomas. Through this program, alumni provide career advice on networking, job searching, interviewing, balancing life obligations and other life-skills knowledge to undergraduate students in all academic programs. Beginning early in the spring semester of the students’ junior year, and lasting throughout the summer and fall semester of their senior year, the program occurs at an integral time in students’ academic careers. Alumni-student pairs meet on an ongoing basis over the year-long term, beginning with an exciting introductory event.
Consistently, alumni and students alike praise the SAM program for the many benefits gained through this mentorship connection.
